Over Labor Day weekend, I hopped a plane down to my hometown in California and visited my dear friend Rachael, who I have known since the 4th grade! Finally in the company of someone else who “gets” the whole blogging thing, we happily did little outfit photos for each other at the park. Here’s what I wore. (Click any photo to enlarge)

I got this dress recently at Target and I absolutely adore it! I’m really gravitating toward neutrals, especially brown for this coming season, which is really new for me. Usually I’m all about loud colors and prints, but I’m feeling a lot more subdued these days. The sandals are (believe it or not) the only pair of sandals that I currently own. Rachael made me buy them a couple of months ago when she was visiting and I was in need of footwear for a casual, outdoor, summertime wedding.

I did my hair in a quick, low down messy bun on the side. I have been wearing my hair this way a lot lately. It takes less than a minute, and all you need is a hairband and a few hair pins. It looks intentionally messy and undone without looking frumpy and since it was a bajillion degrees in California, I felt like I was going to die if I didn’t have my hair up off my neck.
I’ve had these sunglasses for a couple of years now, but I just love them. They remind me of Audrey Hepburn and it’s so rare that I find any sunglasses that I don’t immediately hate when I try them on. The small cross-body bag is nice when I am going out and don’t need to carry my whole life with me like I usually feel like I need to. It’s just big enough to carry my ID, some money, gum, chapstick… the essentials. And the necklace I bought a few months back, along with several others when on a quick quest for less obnoxious and intrusive jewelry than what I already own. It almost perfectly matches the dress. Wearing gold instead of silver is also totally new for me. I’m branching out!

I’ve worn this dress a few other times, though with tights (purple ones), as it’s a bit cooler here in the Pacific Northwest than it was in California. It’s a very lightweight dress, so I am trying to think of more ways to make it warmer for fall. I am trying to get away from wearing hoodies this fall, but I thought it might be nice with boots and a cardigan. What do you think? Are you starting to plan your fall wardrobe yet?
And make sure to check out Rachael’s style blog, Rachael, Really.

Thank you! I am on the hunt for some nice looking boots right now. I love being able to layer and bundle up too, I just need to get more accessories. You’ll have to share with us if you find any especially good fall pieces!
